This course will help students consider multiple historical perspectives, drawn from diverse sources and voices, and to use historical content knowledge to endow “historical thinking,” a critical skill for engaged citizens of a democratic system.
In this course, students will address essential historical questions drawn from the National Council for the Social Studies’ C3 Framework for Social Studies, including Change, Continuity and Context; Perspectives; Historical Sources and Evidence; and Causation and Argumentation, while meeting both the Michigan Content Expectations for U.S. History and Geography and the literacy standards of the Common Core State Standards. Students will draw on a variety of primary and secondary sources, developing both historical thinking and critical source analysis.
