In Middle School World History, Semester B, you’ll learn about major historical events that took place in the world. In the first unit, you will learn about the developments and characteristics of classical civilizations in Asia and the Americas. In the second unit, you’ll trace the development of classical Greece and Rome. In the third unit, you’ll analyze the development and characteristics of the early medieval period. In the fourth unit, you’ll learn about the growth of civilizations in Africa and Asia during the late medieval period. In the last unit, you’ll analyze the transformation of Western Europe during the late Middle Ages.

At the end of this course students will be able to: You’ll analyze the development and characteristics of classical civilizations in China and India. You’ll also examine the development and characteristics of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican and Andean civilizations. You’ll examine the development and characteristics of Hellenistic Greece and the Roman Republic. You will also learn about the spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire. You will trace the origins and growth of the Byzantine Empire and learn about the growth of western Europe in the early Middle Ages. You’ll also explore the beliefs of Islam and how it spread in Europe and the Middle East. You’ll trace the development of civilizations in Africa in the Middle Ages. You will learn about the influence of Islam in India and Southeast Asia. You’ll examine the growth of western Europe during the late Middle Ages and analyze the development of France, England, and Spain as nation-states.

In order to be successful in our program, it is important for the student to remain in constant communication with the online instructor. The online instructor will be communicating with the student 1-2 times per week. Communication between the student and online instructor will be phone, email, texting, and/or discussion boards. Online instructors provide families with their weekly office hours and My Virtual Academy is open Monday – Thursday from 8 AM – 8 PM, Friday from 8 AM – 4 PM and Saturday from 8AM – 2 PM with staff available to answer questions/concerns. Messages received after hours will be returned the next school day. Parents/Guardians/Students will have access to the curriculum and gradebook 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
My Virtual Academy Tech Support is available Monday - Thursday, 8 AM - 8 PM, Friday 8 AM - 4 PM, and Saturday 8 AM - 2PM.
