Course Description:
This semester course acquaints students with topics in classical and modern physics. The second semester discusses the topics of electric circuits, light, fluids, sound, heat, nuclear physics and modern physics. The course emphasizes conceptual understanding of basic physics principles, with some problem solving. There are interactive conceptual and problem-solving examples throughout the lessons, as well as interactive lab simulations and in-school, hands-on lab options.

Throughout the course, students will meet the following goals: • Understand and apply the methods of physics: scientific thinking, measurements, and using mathematics as a tool for logically solving physics problems. • Understand the basic principles pertaining to topics in classical physics, including motion, work and energy, waves, and electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and properties of fluids. • Understand the basic principles pertaining to topics in modern physics including quantum theory, relativity, solid state physics, nanotechnology, and the origin and evolution of the universe. • Apply critical thinking, reasoning, and decision-making skills to solve mathematical and non-mathematical physics problems. • Appreciate how physics affects daily life and society.
