Course Description:

Allied Health Careers, Semester B, is the second part of a two-semester course. The course 

gives you an understanding of different allied health professions and equips you with the 

essential knowledge and skills required in diverse fields such as biotech research, 

rehabilitation, assistive and geriatric care, pharmacology, medical administration, and 

veterinary care. You will learn about the common hazards present in laboratories and other

health care facilities. You will learn about infection control, safety precautions, guidelines, and

practices. You will also learn about the laws and ethical issues relevant to allied health 

workplaces. Toward the end of this course, you will focus on developing career skills, such as

teamwork and leadership skills, research job opportunities, apply for jobs, and participate in 

mock interviews.

To be successful in our program, it is important for the student to remain in constant communication with the online instructor. The online instructor will be communicating with the student 1-2 times per week. Communication between the student and online instructor will be phone, email, texting, Zoom Meeting and/or discussion boards. Online instructors provide families with their weekly office hours and My Virtual Academy is open Monday – Thursday from 8 AM – 8 PM, Friday from 8 AM – 4 PM and Saturday from 8 AM – 2 PM with staff available to answer questions/concerns. Messages received after hours will be returned the next school day. Parents/Guardians/Students will have access to the curriculum and grade book 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

My Virtual Academy Tech Support is available Monday - Thursday, 8 AM - 8 PM, Friday 8 AM - 4 PM, and Saturday 8 AM - 2PM.
