Course Description:

This course will dive into the concepts of transformations, similar and congruent figures, special relationships in geometric figures, Pythagorean Theorem, volume, and patterns in data. We will connect these concepts to real-world applications. Students will practice these mathematical concepts in a variety of forms and applications. Students will employ the standards of mathematical practice as they work through the course material.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to...

  • Experiment with transformations in the plane and understand congruence in terms of rigid motions
  • Examine angle relationships created by intersecting lines and parallel lines crossed by a transversal; examine special angle relationships in triangles
  • Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse, apply it to find missing lengths in right triangles, and use it to find the distance between two fixed points to solve real-world mathematical problems
  • Identify the formulas for volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and apply them to solve real-world problems
  • Analyze patterns of association, including scatter plots, line of best fit, interpretation of lines of best fit, and frequency tables
