Course Description:

Third grade art is an introduction to visual art, a yearlong course. Students complete assignments that last one or more weeks for the entire school year.  The goal is that each virtual lesson will last approximately 55 minutes. Students have an opportunity to explore and learn about the nationally recognized Elements of Art as well as be introduced to a selection of culturally diverse artists and art styles.

Painting/Color

  • I can create Tints and Shades to demonstrate my understanding of value in color and the Monochromatic Color Theory.
  • I can identify and use complementary colors in my artwork.

Printmaking

  • I can use a variety of design elements and principles to create a print with teacher assistance.
  • I can follow directions to correctly use printmaking tools. (ie: brayer, markers, ink, paint)

Ceramic/Sculpture

  • I can create a sculptural work of art using a slab/tile.  (I had virtual students make relief sculptures with modeling clay on paper plates as a substitute that worked well for students learning from home.)
  • I can demonstrate understanding of subtractive techniques

Mixed Media Media/Collage

  • I can use Design Elements and Principles in my Collage and/or Sculpture.
  • I can Identify Composition Characteristics in my Collage. ( i.e. Positive and Negative Space, Rule of Thirds, Focal Point, Visual Movement, Visual Balance)

Drawing

  • I can use drawing techniques to create 3-D forms.
  • I can use the elements and principles of design to show variety and detail in my art. (ie: focal point, rule of thirds, bi-lateral symmetry, a-symmetry, visual movement)
  • I can use a sketch as part of my final drawing.
  • I can follow directions to use a variety of drawing materials.
