This one-semester elective course is intended to introduce you to the basics of fashion design. In this course, you will explore the history of fashion, the components of fashion, the influences and contributions of some key fashion innovators, and the various steps involved in the production of a garment.

At the end of this course students will be able to: Define the meaning of fashion, its key influences, and its place in the modern world. Define the key components of fashion: the elements of design and the principles of design. Explain the different fashion lines. Know the relevance, the impact, and the working of key fashion capitals around the world. Explored the growth of fashion in the United States from the seventeenth century into the mid-twentieth century. Explain the stages in the fashion life cycle and the key factors that influence the life cycle. Explain the steps in garment production, starting from a garment sample.

In order to be successful in our program, it is important for the student to remain in constant communication with the online instructor. The online instructor will be communicating with the student 1-2 times per week. Communication between the student and online instructor will be phone, email, texting, and/or discussion boards. Online instructors provide families with their weekly office hours and My Virtual Academy is open Monday – Thursday from 8 AM – 8 PM, Friday from 8 AM – 4 PM and Saturday from 8AM – 2 PM with staff available to answer questions/concerns. Messages received after hours will be returned the next school day. Parents/Guardians/Students will have access to the curriculum and gradebook 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
